Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929 alongside the Barcelona Chair, the Barcelona Table was conceived as a single cohesive design statement. Its welded steel frame in polished chrome and clear glass top embody the Miesian principle that honest materials, rigorously detailed, are all that a beautiful object requires. Knoll was granted exclusive manufacturing and sales rights by the designer in 1953 and has produced the table to his original specifications ever since.

Regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of architecture, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's minimalist approach was the gold standard for generations of modern design. His maxim — "less is more" — is embodied in every line of the Barcelona collection. Mies taught at the Bauhaus and Illinois Institute of Technology, and his buildings — including the Seagram Building and Farnsworth House — permanently changed the face of American architecture.

Care Instructions

Glass Top

Clean with a soft, lint-free cloth and a glass cleaner or mild soap solution. Dry thoroughly to prevent streaking. Avoid abrasive pads or scourers that will scratch the polished surface.

Chrome Frame

Wipe with a soft, damp microfiber cloth. A small amount of mild soap removes fingerprints and light soiling. Dry immediately after cleaning to prevent water marks. Do not use abrasive pads or harsh chemicals.
