78"W × 47.75"D × 28.25"H — standard dining height. Seats 6 to 8 people. As a guideline: for 8 place settings on a 78" oval, allow approximately 24–26" of table edge per person on the long sides, and one place at each end. Allow at least 36" from the table edge to the nearest wall or obstacle for comfortable seating and movement — more at the ends if the space allows.
The Pedestal Collection oval dining tables are available in four widths: 72" (42"D), 78" (47.75"D), 84" (47"D), and 96" (54"D), all at 28.25" height. The 78" is the most widely specified oval size — large enough for 6–8 people, proportioned for a standard dining room. If you need to seat more, or if your room is exceptionally long, the 84" or 96" may be more appropriate. Contact our team to discuss.
A rectangular table of similar seating capacity has four legs — creating the "slum of legs" Saarinen's entire collection was designed to eliminate — and four corners that interrupt the flow of a space. The oval has one pedestal base, no corners, and no hard head-of-table orientation. It seats the same number of people with a softer, more democratic geometry. That said, a rectangle has its own merits — contact our team if you are weighing both.
Yes — the marble top is a single large-format piece of natural stone. This means the veining pattern runs continuously across the full 78" length of the top, which is one of the things that makes a marble Saarinen oval at this size so visually striking. It also means each top is entirely unique; no two are identical. Stone selection and viewing samples in person is strongly recommended — contact our team.
For marble top versions at this size, professional installation is strongly recommended. The marble top is heavy and large-format; positioning and attaching it to the base safely requires at least two people, and ideally a professional handling team.
