Where the three-seat Florence Knoll Sofa applies her architectural restraint at scale, the Model 31 distils the same idea into a single seat: a slim tubular steel frame — available in polished chrome or black paint — supporting thick, rectangular seat and back cushions built on a multilayer wood panel with elastic springs and flexible polyurethane padding.

When Knoll brought the Model 31 back into production, they highlighted its "light visual footprint." By stripping the base down to a minimalist tubular steel frame, the thick, geometric cushions achieve a striking floating character. It reads as substantial and comfortable to sit in, but visually light and disciplined from afar. Its completely rectilinear form holds no unnecessary curves, making it an ideal showcase piece for premium neutral textiles or statement leathers.

About Florence Knoll (1954)
A legendary protégée of Eero Saarinen and student of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Florence Knoll Bassett pioneered the concept of "total design." As director of the Knoll Planning Unit, she seamlessly unified architecture, interior layout, textiles, and furniture into a single discipline, completely reshaping post-war corporate and residential environments. In 2002, she was honored with the National Medal of Arts. Knoll continues to manufacture her designs today as an integral part of the global MillerKnoll collective.

Care Instructions

Polished Chrome Frame: Wipe with a clean, slightly damp soft cloth. For stubborn marks, use a mild soap solution and dry immediately with a microfiber cloth. Never use abrasive pads, scouring products, or solvent-based cleaners.

Black Paint Frame: Clean with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap if needed. Dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive materials that could cut through the paint layers and expose the raw steel beneath.

Fabric Cushions: Vacuum or brush regularly to prevent dust build-up. Blot liquid spills instantly with a clean cloth without rubbing. Follow specific Knoll Textile instructions and keep away from extended direct sunlight.

Leather Cushions: Dust with a dry cloth weekly. Clean stains using dedicated premium leather cleaners and condition periodically. Do not use household detergents, alcohol, or solvents.
