Knoll introduced the polished 18K gold-plated frame in 2018 to celebrate the company's 80th anniversary. The gold frame was a deliberate commemoration — after 80 years of producing what is believed to be the world's first bent tubular steel chair, Knoll chose a material with permanent cultural resonance to mark the occasion.
The 18K gold-plating process adds to the standard production time. Lead time is extended relative to the standard chrome version — please contact our team at time of enquiry for the current confirmed lead time.
The gold-plated frame is polished and durable in normal indoor use. The plating should be treated with additional care relative to the chrome version — avoid abrasive cleaning products, metal polishes not specified for gold-plated surfaces, and solvent-based cleaners. Any scratches or chips on the gold surface should be addressed promptly. Contact our team for care guidance specific to the gold plating.
