Marcel Breuer described the moment he understood the potential of tubular steel by saying he was "very much engaged in the transparency of the form." The MB Lounge Chair is that transparency applied to a lounge chair that actually has to work — to support a body in rest for extended periods. His solution was characteristically direct: a continuous bent frame that generates the form of the chair from a single material, suspended by horizontal metal springs that give the back just enough movement to prevent the rigidity that other tubular steel lounge chairs from the same era suffer from. The solid oak armrests — the only material in the chair that is not chrome-plated steel — are a considered choice: wood at the point of contact, where the sitter's arms actually rest. At 41 lbs the MB Lounge has real physical presence. At 24.8"W it is compact without compromising the 32"D depth that makes the seating position genuinely comfortable. The single continuous cushion — covering the seat and back in one form — attaches with velcro and lifts free for cleaning: a practical detail that matches the rational Bauhaus approach to the object as a whole. Marcel Breuer (1902–1981) was a pivotal figure of the Bauhaus movement and one of the most influential designer-architects of the Modernist era. As a student and later master of the Bauhaus carpentry shop, Breuer championed the integration of art, craftsmanship, and industrial production. His groundbreaking experiments with tubular steel, inspired by bicycle handlebars, revolutionized 20th-century furniture design. Pieces like the Laccio Tables and the iconic Wassily Chair transformed steel tubes into lines of functional art. Knoll is part of the MillerKnoll collective, alongside leading modern furniture innovators including Herman Miller, NaughtOne, and Maharam.

Care Instructions

Polished Chrome Cantilever Frame

Wipe with a clean, slightly damp soft cloth for routine cleaning. A mild soap solution on a soft cloth is safe for marks — dry immediately. Do not leave standing moisture on chrome. Do not use abrasive pads, scouring products, or solvent-based cleaners; these will permanently damage the chrome plating. Treat scratches or chips promptly to prevent corrosion at exposed bare steel.

Solid Oak Armrests (Clear Lacquer)

Wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth. Do not submerge or leave standing moisture on the oak surface. For marks, a mild soap solution is safe — dry immediately. The clear lacquer finish protects the oak grain. Do not use solvent-based products on the lacquered surface.

Upholstered Foam Cushion

The cushion is removable from the frame (velcro attachment) and can be taken off for cleaning. For fabric upholstery, follow the specific care instructions for the specified textile. For leather upholstery, use a dedicated leather cleaner and condition periodically. Do not use household detergents or alcohol-based products on leather grades. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which will fade upholstery over time.

Metal Springs & Floor Glides

The horizontal metal springs are part of the frame structure and do not require routine maintenance. If spring tension is noticeably reduced or a spring becomes dislodged, contact our team for assessment. Check clear plastic floor glides periodically for wear and replace if worn.

Марсель Брейер так описывал момент, когда он осознал огромный потенциал трубчатой стали: «Я был глубоко увлечен прозрачностью самой формы». Кресло MB Lounge Chair стало идеальным воплощением этой прозрачности, примененной к предмету мебели, который должен служить своей главной цели — обеспечивать человеку полноценный и долгий отдых. Решение дизайнера было бескомпромиссным и прямым: непрерывный гнутый каркас задает силуэт всего кресла из единого материала, а интегрированные горизонтальные металлические пружины обеспечивают живую амортизацию спинки. Это избавляет конструкцию от излишней жесткости, которой страдали другие стальные кресла той эпохи. Подлокотники из массива дуба — единственный элемент, выполненный не из металла — представляют собой выверенный тактильный выбор: натуральное теплое дерево в точке непосредственного контакта с руками человека. При весе 18.6 кг кресло обладает внушительной физической основательностью, оставаясь компактным по ширине (63.0 см), что никак не вредит глубокой и комфортной посадке. Сплошная подушка фиксируется на липучках и полностью снимается для чистки — практичная деталь, подчеркивающая рациональный подход Баухауса. Поставляется полностью собранным.

Марсель Брейер (1902–1981) — легендарный представитель движения Баухаус и один из самых влиятельных дизайнеров и архитекторов эпохи модернизма. Будучи студентом, а затем и руководителем столярной мастерской Баухауса, Брейер продвигал концепцию слияния искусства, ремесленного мастерства и промышленного производства. Инструкции по уходу

Полированный хромированный каркас кантилевера

Для регулярной очистки протирайте чистой, слегка влажной мягкой тканью. Сложные следы можно удалить мыльным раствором, после чего незамедлительно вытереть металл насухо. Не оставляйте влагу на хроме. Категорически запрещено использовать жесткие губки, абразивные чистящие средства или растворители — они необратимо повредят покрытие. При появлении глубоких царапин обработайте их сразу, чтобы избежать коррозии стали.

Подлокотники из массива дуба (Прозрачный лак)

Протирайте слегка влажной мягкой тканью. Не допускайте скопления воды и не погружайте элементы в жидкость. Пятна удаляются слабым мыльным раствором с последующим протиранием насухо. Защитное лаковое покрытие сохраняет текстуру дуба. Запрещается использовать составы на основе химических растворителей.

Мягкая подушка из пенополиуретана

Подушка крепится на липучках и полностью снимается для проведения клининга. При уходе за текстильной обивкой следуйте инструкциям для конкретного типа ткани. Для кожаной обивки применяйте специализированные очистители и кондиционеры для натуральной кожи. Не используйте бытовые моющие средства или составы со спиртом. Избегайте долгого воздействия прямых солнечных лучей во избежание выцветания обивки.

Металлические пружины и подпятники

Горизонтальные стальные пружины являются частью несущей конструкции и не требуют повседневного обслуживания. В случае ослабления натяжения или смещения пружины обратитесь за сервисной консультацией. Регулярно осматривайте прозрачные пластиковые опоры на ножках и заменяйте их при износе.

The springs provide a slight, natural give and movement to the back when the sitter moves or shifts weight. It is not a mechanical or adjustable feature; it is an inherent characteristic of the spring- supported frame.

Yes — the single continuous foam cushion attaches to the spring frame via velcro straps and can be removed entirely from the frame for cleaning. This makes the MB Lounge Chair practical for residential and hospitality use.
