The Cesca Caned Armchair is the fuller, more enclosed expression of Marcel Breuer's 1928 cantilevered dining chair — the same seamless 1" diameter chrome-plated tubular steel cantilevered frame stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Breuer's signature, the same machine-woven cane insets set in a solid hardwood beech frame, but with solid beech arms that extend the beech framework of the seat and back into a full enclosing form.

The addition of solid beech arms transforms the Cesca into a complete seating object. While the cantilevered steel and cane base remain identical to the side chair, the 27"H arm height allows for versatile use across dining, office, and lounge settings, offering a wider 23.5" profile without increasing the footprint's depth.

Steel: Wipe with damp soft cloth. Beech: Use damp cloth, avoid standing moisture. Cane: Dust with dry cloth, keep away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. Do not use solvent-based cleaners on lacquered beech or cane.

Cesca Caned Armchair: 23.5"W × 23.5"D × 31.5"H; seat height 17.75"H; arm height 27"H. Weight: 16 lb (7.3 kg). Comes fully assembled.

The arms are an extension of the solid beech framework that forms the seat and back rim — the same material, the same clear lacquer finish, shaped to form the arm. They are not attached separately; there is no joint or visible connection between the arm and the seat frame.

The Side Chair is 18.5"W × 23.5"D; the Armchair is 23.5"W × 23.5"D. The depth, height, seat height, and weight (16 lb) are the same. The Armchair adds 5" of width for the beech arms at 27"H. The Armchair is more self-contained as a standalone object; the side chair is more compact and pairs more easily in multiples.

Because the Cesca has no back legs, the frame is held in tension by the sitter's weight. The chrome tube flexes slightly under dynamic load — when the sitter moves, shifts, or leans back. This is a designed property of the cantilevered form, not a defect.

Yes — 100% genuine Knoll (KnollStudio). The frame is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Marcel Breuer's signature. Knoll is the only authorised manufacturer.
