The Florence Knoll Relaxed Sofa, Two Seater applies the same softening principle as the Relaxed Three Seater to the more compact, two-seat scale: Florence Knoll's 1954 tufted-grid settee, now with a deeper seat and softer cushion fill for a more reclined, informal sit — without changing the visual character of the original. The exposed heavy-gauge tubular steel frame in polished chrome is identical to the standard Two Seater.

At 63" wide, the Relaxed Two Seater is just 0.5" wider than its standard counterpart, meaning the intentional 3" depth expansion (35"D vs 32.25"D) accounts for its evolved footprint. This extra depth fundamentally alters the sitting ergonomics, moving the body back away from the front edge into a deeper, fully enveloped slouch. The classic tufted grid and grid squares remain intact, but the absence of welted seams allows the fiberfill layers to billow naturally. Introduced by Knoll as part of a centennial tribute celebrating 100 years of Florence Knoll, the Relaxed collection stands as proof that historic modernist designs can adapt seamlessly to contemporary comfort expectations without sacrificing their clean geometric lines.

Care & Maintenance

Fiberfill Cushion Care: The Relaxed Two Seater features deep layers of plush polyester fiberfill wrapped over high-resiliency foam. Because these cushions are left unwelted to emphasize a softer look, they will show organic wrinkling and slight compression with normal use. Periodically fluff, flip, and manually massage the tufts to redistribute fibers evenly. If multiple seating pieces are installed in the same layout, alternate usage to promote uniform aging across the set.
