While the Relaxed interpretations of the Florence Knoll Sofa and Settee expand their depth footprints by nearly 8 cm, the Relaxed Lounge Chair uniquely preserves its original 81.9 cm × 81.9 cm square plan view. The structural evolution is concentrated entirely within the upholstery engineering: layers of dense polyester fiberfill are wrapped over the foam core, and the seams are left unwelted. Backed by an enhanced wood-and-mesh inner framework, it provides an intentionally deep, plush seating experience while maintaining the iconic, historic modernist silhouette.

About Florence Knoll
Trained under design icons Eliel Saarinen and modern master Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Florence Knoll unified furniture engineering with interior architecture. As director of the Knoll Planning Unit, she established the doctrine of "total design"—coordinating structure, custom textiles, and graphics into a singular discipline. Her mid-century seating collections remain defining benchmarks in international modern archives. Knoll is a principal member of the MillerKnoll collective.

Care & Maintenance

Fiberfill Cushion Care: Because the Relaxed version incorporates plush polyester fiberfill layers, the cushions will show more organic compression and surface movement than standard rigid foam. Periodically fluff, massage, and reshape the cushion faces to redistribute the fibers evenly. Alternating seating positions within a set will promote uniform wear.

Polished Chrome Frame: Clean using a soft, slightly damp cloth. Dry immediately with a microfiber cloth to prevent water spot tarnishing. Avoid abrasive steel wool or heavy chemical solvents.

Fabric Upholstery: Vacuum seams with a soft brush attachment. Blot liquid spills immediately; do not rub.

Yes — the width, depth, and overall height are identical to the standard version (32.25" × 32.25" × 31.25"). The seat height is 0.75" higher (18.25" vs 17.5") due to the extra fiberfill adding volume to the cushion. The footprint is exactly the same; the space it occupies in the room is identical. Unlike the Relaxed Sofa, which gains nearly 3" of depth, the Relaxed Lounge Chair's changes are entirely in the cushion construction, not the outer dimensions.

Three things: (1) polyester fiberfill has been added to the tufted seat and back cushions, making the sit softer and more yielding; (2) the cushion seams are unwelted — the edges are softer and less sharply defined; (3) the seat height is 0.75" higher at 18.25"H. The chrome frame, the overall dimensions, the tufted grid pattern, the leather buttons/fabric buttonless distinction, and the KnollStudio signature are identical.
