About Florence Knoll (1954)
Orphaned at an early age, Florence Knoll was mentored by Eliel Saarinen and later advanced under modern master Mies van der Rohe. As the visionary director of the legendary Knoll Planning Unit, she pioneered the philosophy of "total design"—orchestrating architecture, structural furniture layouts, and custom textile programs as a unified, fluid discipline. Her mid-century lounge pieces remain celebrated benchmarks in modern design history. Knoll is a principal member of the MillerKnoll collective.

Care Instructions

Polished Chrome Outer Frame: Wipe regularly with a clean, soft, damp cloth. Treat deeper marks with a mild soap mix, drying the metal immediately to prevent moisture tarnish. Avoid wire pads, abrasive sponges, or chemical solvent formulas.

In leather, the seam is finished with a matching button at each tuft point; in fabric, the tufting is buttonless — the grid reads as a pressed relief without the punctuation of a button. Both readings are faithful to Florence Knoll's original specification for each material.

The standard Florence Knoll Lounge Chair (this listing) has multi-density foam cushions with welted tufting — a firm, tailored, precise sit. The Relaxed Lounge Chair (listed separately) adds polyester fiberfill to the tufted cushions and removes the welted seams, producing a softer, less structured feel. The overall dimensions are the same (32.25"W × 32.25"D × 31.25"H); the seat height on the Relaxed version is slightly higher at 18.25"H due to the additional cushion fill.
