An exposed frame and legs in heavy gauge steel, finished in polished chrome, support a seat built from individually sewn squares of fabric or leather over a solid wood inner frame — a single upholstered cushion visually divided into a grid that gives the bench its distinctive tailored texture. The exposed heavy gauge steel frame, finished in polished or satin chrome, carries no ornamentation beyond what its structure requires — a direct inheritance of the rational design approach Florence Knoll learned from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. What distinguishes this Bench visually is its upholstery: rather than a single unbroken cushion, the seat is built from individually sewn squares of fabric or leather, giving the surface a quiet, grid-like texture that reads as considered tailoring rather than mere covering. Florence Knoll Bassett (1917–2019) was a pioneering American architect and interior designer who revolutionized modern corporate office design. Care Instructions

Upholstered Seat (Fabric): Brush or vacuum periodically to remove dust. For marks, use a fabric-appropriate cleaner — test in an inconspicuous area first. Do not over-wet the upholstery; blot rather than rub. Follow the care instructions specific to the specified KnollTextiles fabric. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which will fade fabric upholstery over time.

Upholstered Seat (Leather): Wipe with a dry or very lightly damp soft cloth for routine cleaning. Use a dedicated leather cleaner for marks — apply gently, do not rub aggressively. Condition the leather periodically with a suitable leather conditioner. Do not use household detergents, alcohol-based products, or solvents. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which will dry and fade leather over time.

Exposed Steel Frame (Polished or Satin Chrome): Wipe with a clean, slightly damp soft cloth for routine cleaning. Mild soap solution on a soft cloth is safe for marks — dry immediately. Do not leave standing moisture on chrome. Do not use abrasive pads, scouring products, or solvent-based cleaners.
