The oval shape of this Table Desk is a clear example: she developed the oval conference table specifically to solve a problem she observed in standard rectangular meeting tables — the people seated at the ends and along the sides could not see each other clearly, which undermined the communication a meeting was meant to accomplish. An oval table eliminates that dead zone; every seat has a reasonably clear line of sight to every other seat. That same logic, applied to a single-person desk, produces a piece that feels less like a barrier and more like an open surface — a desk that invites conversation rather than defending against it. The four-star pedestal base, in heavy gauge welded steel finished in polished chrome, was refined by Florence Knoll and the Knoll Development Group down to fractions of an inch, exactly as it was on her rectangular Executive Desk. Perfectly proportioned and flawlessly detailed, the 78" Oval Table Desk brings that same discipline to a smaller, more intimate scale than its 96" sibling — equally suited to an executive office, a conference room, or, as many owners have discovered over sixty years, a dining room.

Florence Knoll Bassett (1917–2019) was a pioneering American architect, interior designer, and entrepreneur who fundamentally redefined the landscape of the modern corporate office. Born in Saginaw, Michigan, she studied under Eliel Saarinen at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and later refined her architectural vision under modern masters Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Joining Hans Knoll in 1943, she founded the legendary Knoll Planning Unit, applying a rigorous architectural methodology to interior space planning. Her furniture designs—conceived not as standalone luxury ornaments but as essential structural elements within her wider spatial blueprints—became definitive pillars of Mid-Century Modernism. She was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2002, the highest honor given to artists and designers by the United States government. Knoll is part of the MillerKnoll collective.

Care Instructions

Wood Veneer Top: Wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth. Do not leave standing moisture on the surface — dry immediately. Do not use solvent-based products. Avoid placing very hot items directly on the surface.

Laminate Top: Wipe with a slightly damp cloth. Mild detergent solution is safe for marks. Do not use abrasive cleaners or rough scrubbing pads.

Coated Marble Top: Wipe with a clean, slightly damp soft cloth. A mild soap solution is safe for marks — dry immediately and completely. Do not use acid-based cleaners (vinegar, citrus), which will permanently damage the coating. Do not place the desk outdoors. The coating may yellow slightly over time, giving the marble a warmer tone — an inherent natural characteristic, not a defect.

Polished Chrome Base: Wipe with a clean, slightly damp soft cloth for routine cleaning. Mild soap solution on a soft cloth is safe for marks — dry immediately. Do not use abrasive pads, scouring products, or solvent-based chemical cleaners.

Мраморная столешница (с покрытием): Протирайте чистой, слегка влажной мягкой тканью. Допускается использование слабого мыльного раствора с последующим немедленным удалением остатков влаги. Категорически запрещено применять чистящие составы на основе кислот (уксус, цитрусовые очистители), способные разрушить защитное покрытие. Стол предназначен исключительно для интерьерного использования. Покрытие может незначительно пожелтеть со временем, придавая мрамору более теплый благородный оттенок, что является естественным свойством материала.

Полированное хромированное основание: Для регулярной уборки используйте чистую мягкую влажную салфетку. Для удаления следов рук можно использовать разведенный мыльный раствор с обязательным протиранием насухо. Не используйте жесткие щетки, металлические мочалки и агрессивные химикаты.
