The round version (Ø 130 cm) seats 4–6 and is particularly well-suited to smaller dining rooms or spaces where a central, social arrangement is preferred — with no head-of-table hierarchy, it is inherently egalitarian. The boat-shaped version has a wider centre and narrower ends, making it more comfortable for those sitting at the short sides than a strictly rectangular table. It is available in two sizes: 183 × 107 cm (seats 6) and 213 × 107 cm (seats 8). For private dining rooms, the round is the more intimate choice; the boat-shaped is better for larger gatherings and more formal settings.
The solid wood tops — natural oak, dark stained oak, and American walnut — are 25 mm thick and bring natural warmth and grain variation to the table. Natural oak and walnut have an oiled finish and an open-pored surface that develops character with age; dark stained oak has a protective lacquer finish that is slightly more resistant. The HPL option offers a white surface with a distinctive rounded black plastic edge — hard-wearing, easy to clean, and the closest in aesthetic to the original conference table versions. For residential dining, solid wood is most popular; HPL suits those who want maximum durability or a crisper, more graphic aesthetic.
All base finishes are available with all top materials, so the pairing is a matter of aesthetic preference. The chrome + basic dark column finish is the most widely specified — it is close to the original Eames table base and works with every top. All-chrome is the cleanest and most reflective. Polished aluminium with basic dark column offers a warmer metallic tone. The all deep black powder-coated base creates the most graphic contrast against light wood or HPL tops and feels more contemporary in dark-toned interiors. Yes. Vitra is the sole company legally authorised to manufacture Eames products for Europe and the Middle East — holding the original production rights granted by the Eames Office. An Eames table produced by Vitra is not a licensed reproduction: it is an original, produced using the same specifications and methods that Charles and Ray Eames approved. Tables labelled "Eames-style" or "Eames-inspired" sold by other manufacturers are not originals and do not carry the authorisation of the Eames estate or Vitra.
The Segmented Table base system is inherently modular — it was designed to accommodate a wide range of configurations. While the standard dining versions come in the sizes listed, Vitra can accommodate custom sizes and bespoke configurations for specific room requirements. Solid wood is a living surface that requires more attention than HPL but rewards that care with character and longevity. Wipe spills immediately with a damp cloth and dry promptly — do not leave liquids standing on the surface. For routine cleaning, a slightly damp cloth is sufficient. The oiled tops (natural oak and walnut) benefit from periodic re-oiling — once or twice a year is typically sufficient for a dining table in regular use.
