—— QUESTIONS
Everything you might ask before buying.
Yes. The Noguchi Dining Table is the same piece widely known as the Cyclone, named for the spiralling visual effect created by the diagonal chrome-plated steel rods when viewed from above. The name Cyclone was the original Knoll marketing name when the table was first introduced in the late 1950s. Vitra produces and sells it under the name Dining Table as part of their Noguchi collection; both names refer to the same design. The Vitra version is the sole authorised production for Europe and the Middle East.
The Ø 90 cm version (72.5 cm high) is the smaller option — suited to breakfast rooms, kitchen dining areas, or compact dining spaces. It seats 2–3 comfortably, and up to 4 at a stretch. The Ø 121 cm version (72.5 cm high) is the principal dining-table size and seats 4 comfortably. Both share the same base construction, the same materials, and the same white laminate top with black-stained edge. The scale of the base rod pattern also changes between the two sizes, which affects how the table reads in a room.
No — these are two entirely different designs. The Noguchi Coffee Table (produced by Herman Miller) is a low coffee table with two interlocking wooden sculptural base elements and a glass top, designed in 1947–1948. The Noguchi Dining Table (produced by Vitra) is a full- height dining table with a chrome steel rod and cast-iron base and a white laminate top, designed in 1954–1957. Both are by Isamu Noguchi, but they are different products from different manufacturers with different licensing arrangements.
No — Vitra specifically recommends the Noguchi Dining Table for residential use only. It is not designed or rated for the demands of commercial or high-traffic contract environments. For a dining table suitable for restaurant or hospitality use, please see the Eames Segmented Table (Dining), the HAY AAT 10, or the HAY Pyramid Table 02 — all of which carry contract certifications.
It is an authorised original. Vitra produces the Noguchi Dining Table in cooperation with the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum in New York — the body that holds and controls the rights to Noguchi's design work. Vitra is the only manufacturer authorised to produce this piece for Europe and the Middle East. Other tables sold as "Noguchi Dining Tables" or "Cyclone tables" in this region by other manufacturers are unauthorised — they do not carry the approval of the Noguchi Foundation and are not originals.
The stability of the Noguchi Dining Table comes from two sources: the geometry of the rods and the mass of the cast-iron base ring. The chrome-plated steel rods are placed diagonally and under tension, distributing load across the full span of the base in a way that is structurally similar to a cable structure — each rod braces the others. The cast-iron ring at the base is heavy enough to anchor the whole assembly. The result is a table that appears far lighter and more fragile than it is. That apparent contradiction between visual delicacy and real-world stability is precisely the quality Noguchi was working toward.
Wipe with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth for routine cleaning. For fingermarks — which are visible on chrome — use a small amount of chrome or stainless steel polish on a soft cloth to restore the reflective surface. Do not use abrasive products, steel wool, or chemical solvents, which will permanently scratch or damage the chrome plating. Avoid leaving moisture on the rods after cleaning.
Yes — contact our team to arrange a visit to our Almaty showroom. For a piece at this level, we strongly recommend seeing it in person: the interaction between the chrome rods, the cast-iron ring, and the laminate top has a visual quality that photographs capture only partially.
