Zeph Chair® was designed around a deceptively difficult challenge: how do you create a shell chair that actually moves naturally with the body? Studio 7.5 developed Zeph’s kinematic monoshell through extensive prototyping and ergonomic research until they achieved a recline that feels intuitive, balanced, and energizing. Rather than relying on complex mechanisms, the geometry of the shell allows the body’s natural pivot points to generate proper ergonomic counterbalance. The result is a chair that feels simple yet performs with remarkable sophistication — delivering freedom of movement, visual lightness, and all-day comfort in homes, offices, universities, and collaborative spaces alike.

Berlin-based Studio 7.5 is internationally recognized for combining playful design thinking with advanced ergonomic engineering. Founded in 1992 by Burkhard Schmitz, Carola Zwick, and Roland Zwick, the studio has collaborated extensively with Herman Miller on celebrated seating systems including Setu®, Mirra®, Mirra 2®, and Cosm®. For Zeph Chair®, Studio 7.5 explored how a minimalist shell chair could achieve the dynamic movement and comfort typically associated with complex ergonomic task seating. Inspired by the spontaneity and flexibility of modern working and learning environments, they created a chair that bridges Herman Miller’s iconic mid-century modern heritage with the ergonomic expectations of today.

Care instructions

Monoshell surface

Clean regularly using a soft microfiber cloth or mild soap solution. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh solvents, or sharp objects that may damage the shell finish.

3D Knit upholstery

Vacuum gently using a soft brush attachment. Spot clean with mild soap and a damp cloth. Do not machine wash, steam clean, or expose directly to high heat.

Removable 3D Knit system

3D Knit inserts are tool-free and interchangeable. Remove carefully when replacing textiles to preserve the knit structure.

Base & structural components

Wipe using a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid bleach, alcohol-based cleaners, and abrasive chemicals.

Glides & casters

Inspect periodically for debris accumulation to maintain smooth movement and protect flooring surfaces.

Zeph Chair® был создан вокруг deceptively difficult задачи: как сделать shell-chair, который действительно естественно движется вместе с телом. Studio 7.5 разработали kinematic monoshell Zeph через многочисленные прототипы и эргономические исследования, пока не достигли реклайна, который ощущается интуитивно, сбалансированно и энергично.
