Scaling down the Executive shell into an armless configuration, the Saarinen Executive Armless Chair on wood legs is the most versatile and space-efficient member of the Executive series — narrower than the arm chair, equally organic in form, and naturally suited to dining rooms, conference settings where arm clearance matters, and any interior where a refined side chair with serious design credentials is needed. The solid steam-bent oak legs, available in multiple finishes, bring the same warmth to the armless version as to the arm chair — grounding Saarinen's fluid shell in natural material without compromising its modernity.

After completing the Womb Chair, Saarinen scaled its ideas into a series of arm and armless chairs that Florence Knoll adopted as the Knoll Planning Unit's standard seating system. The armless version offered a remarkably versatile solution — equally suited to dining rooms, conference spaces, guest seating, and executive interiors.

On wood legs, the armless version feels especially natural in residential dining spaces. Its narrower width allows more generous seating along the long sides of a table, while the absence of arms lets the chair tuck neatly underneath when not in use. Combined with arm chairs at the table heads — a classic Florence Knoll composition — it creates a dining arrangement of quiet authority and architectural clarity.

Care Instructions

Fabric upholstery

Vacuum regularly using a soft brush attachment. For spot cleaning, apply a mild soap solution with a damp cloth and blot gently — do not rub.

Spinneybeck® leather

Wipe with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Use leather conditioner periodically and avoid prolonged direct sunlight.

Solid oak legs

Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products and prolonged moisture exposure.

После завершения Womb Chair Saarinen развил её идею в серию arm и armless chairs, которые Florence Knoll использовала вместо своих model 43 chairs как стандартное seating solution для Knoll Planning Unit. Версия без подлокотников — серия 72 — дала дизайнерам Knoll chair, достаточно универсальный для использования как side chair, dining chair, conference chair и guest chair одновременно, без визуальной несогласованности.

На деревянных ножках armless version особенно естественно ощущается в dining-интерьерах: chair достаточно узкий, чтобы комфортно размещаться вдоль длинных сторон dining table, а отсутствие arms позволяет полностью задвигать chair под стол. В комбинации с arm chair в торцах — классическая композиция Florence Knoll — возникает dining set с редким ощущением спокойной уверенности и архитектурной целостности.

Upholstered shell — fabric

Регулярно очищайте поверхность пылесосом с мягкой насадкой. Для локальной очистки используйте мягкий мыльный раствор и слегка влажную ткань — промакивайте, не трите. Не используйте паровую очистку и прямой нагрев.

Spinneybeck® leather

Протирайте сухой или слегка влажной мягкой тканью. Для пятен допускается мягкий мыльный раствор. Периодически используйте leather conditioner. Избегайте длительного воздействия прямого солнца.

Solid oak legs

Протирайте сухой или слегка влажной тканью. Не используйте абразивные средства и растворители. Избегайте длительного контакта с влагой.

Painted finishes
