The tubular-leg version is the most directly architectural expression of the Saarinen Executive Chair. The seamless steel legs — formed without visible joints or seams — were the finish Florence Knoll selected for the Knoll Planning Unit's most important corporate commissions: they give the chair a clarity and precision that reads as confidently at a contemporary glass conference table as it did in the mid-century interiors where Saarinen first designed it.

In polished chrome, it is the most classically Knoll expression of the chair. In black, it becomes something more graphic and contemporary. In both cases, the shell — and the seventy-plus years of resolved design behind it — remain exactly the same.

Care Instructions

Upholstered shell (fabric)

Vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment to remove dust and surface debris. For spot cleaning, apply a mild soap solution with a clean damp cloth — blot gently, do not rub.

Upholstered shell (Spinneybeck® leather)

Wipe with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth for routine cleaning. Apply leather conditioner periodically and avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure.

Tubular steel legs

Wipe with a clean damp cloth. For chrome, use a dedicated chrome polish for fingermarks. For black paint, mild soap and water are recommended.
